John Walker & Sons King George V is a rare combination of exquisite Scotch whiskies, drawn from extremely precious rare casks, including irreplaceable whiskies from the now silent distillery of Port Ellen. This elegantly rich and creamy whisky has rarity reflected in every drop.

To craft John Walker & Sons King George V Master Blender Jim Beveridge and our whisky experts sought out treasured stocks among our matchless reserves of Scotch, handpicking only the richest and most distinctly intense whiskies. These extraordinary liquids hold a fascinating wealth of flavours and are personally selected by our whisky makers for their rarity of flavour, maturity, character and quality, as well as their ability to complement each other and marry together perfectly.

The craft required to create this whisky has been passed down through six generations of master blender, a craftmanship so rare it was granted a Royal Warrant by King George V in 1934.

Tasting Notes

Sweet, smoky aromas deepened by Port Ellen are followed by notes of orange and Mediterranean fruits and the rich fruit spiciness - raisins, figs and cinnamon - of malts from across Scotland matured in European and American oak.

Rich in taste, on the palate there is an abundance of spice and dried fruits derived from the Speyside and Highlands whiskies with European oak character, this is perfectly balanced with creamy vanilla sweetness from the malts and grains matured in American oak, together releasing layer upon layer of flavour: sweet fruits, dark chocolate, toffee, spices and roast nuts.

Port Ellen intensifies the maritime Islay smokiness that gathers momentum through the exceptionally long, warming finish with hints of spice and pepper.

Appearance: Polished copper or beech with excellent beading
Nose: Hints of truffle oil soon settle down to fruit-cake. With time, sweetness emerges as dark treacle toffee –then grows richer, finally giving way to newly burnt toast and embers from a wood fire
Palate: Big, smooth-textured and mouth-filling, with a sweet and spicy nature. The first sip cools, then the taste catches fire! Briefly salty, savoury, then toffee sweetness leads to baked pastry
Finish: Lengthy, chewy and warming, with a menthol effect, a hint of flint, then burnt currants on Christmas cake or dried orange peel. There are notes of almond in the beautifully aromatic aftertaste and there’s a very late, charred astringency with a faded trace of smoke
